Best compliance automation tools according to AI assistants (October 2026)
We asked Google AI Overviews and two web-browsing models ten real buyer prompts about SOC 2 and compliance automation software. Vanta was named in 68% of the 22 answers, Drata in 55%, Secureframe in 50%, and Thoropass in 18%. The engines cited Capterra and G2 more than any vendor's own site.
What we asked
Ten prompts drawn from our buyer prompts library: "best SOC 2 and compliance automation tools in 2026", "best compliance automation software for startups", "which vendors should a fintech shortlist", "Vanta vs Drata vs Secureframe", "Vanta alternatives", a pricing question, a "best reviewed on G2 and Capterra" question and three more. Each ran once per engine in audit mode; monthly tracking runs each three times.
Who gets named
| Vendor | Named in | Share of voice | Avg position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vanta | 68% of answers | 36% | 1.3 |
| Drata | 55% | 29% | 1.8 |
| Secureframe | 50% | 26% | 3.0 |
| Thoropass | 18% | 10% | 1.0 |
Vanta is not only named most often, it is named first in most answers where it appears. Secureframe is a regular but usually third. Thoropass appears mainly on its own evaluation prompt ("is Thoropass good?") and on the head-to-head with Vanta, where Google's overview describes it fairly: an all-in-one platform with an in-house audit team versus Vanta's larger ecosystem with external auditors.
What the engines cite
Capterra (5 answers), G2 (4), vanta.com (7) and drata.com (4) are the most cited sources, with securityscorecard.com and a handful of vendor blogs behind them. The pattern is the same one we see in every category: review-site listicles and vendor comparison pages decide the shortlist, and the vendors who are on those pages get named.
What a smaller vendor should do
- Get onto the Capterra and G2 category pages with current reviews and a badge; those pages are cited on the "best tools" prompts.
- Publish "Vanta alternatives" and "Drata alternatives" pages with honest tables; the alternatives prompts had no smaller vendor named at all.
- Publish a buyer's guide for the category that lists all four vendors; engines reward pages that answer the exact question.
- Keep the in-house-audit positioning in one sentence everywhere; it is the differentiator the engines already repeat.
Caveats
This is a 22-answer sample from one day, in audit mode, from the engines we had access to. Mention rates move with every run, and ChatGPT and Perplexity were not included in this sample. The full index page lists every prompt and who was named; the aggregate data is downloadable. Vendors can request the raw answers.
